The Ride Journal
Have been meaning to write something about this for a while - I wrote a little preview a couple of weeks ago and my copy came a few days after.
This magazine/journal is fantastic - it's non cycling genre specific, it's not about gear, or diets, or how to bunny hop, or who won the world championships, or why hardtails are better than full suss or wicked trails to ride, or tips for shaving your legs.. it's just about riding bikes and enjoying the freedom and history of the sport.
For me it totally hit the nail on the head. I have an interest in most of cycling and have just as much admiration for Chris Hoy as I have for people I know riding bmx or whatever. It's nice to find a publication that a) isn't a massive review/advertorial for all the latest gear and b) is well designed and considered.
The guys who put this together obviously really care about what they're doing and it's a labour of love for them rather than a job.
It manages to have a sophisticated layout, without going all "Rouleur" and remains simple in format. Combined with some nice illustration (some bad too) and some really lovely photography it makes a gorgeous magazine that I would subscribe to in a second, were the option available!!
Contributers range from Chris Hoy to Pharell Williams, and there's a whole bunch of "normal" people thrown in there too, talking about how cycling has effected their life for better (or occasionally worse).
If you like bikes, you can't miss this.
