Terrible news for Rietveld Academy

It turns out that after screwing up the extension to accommodate new students the Reitveld board's solution to their own mistake is to relocate the students to a dis-used office block. Very sad stuff, especially since the identity of the academy is so closely linked to the work and the kind of students it produces.

Reading about this reminded me of the Wim Crowel talk I went to with team grafik the other day, in which he explained how the modernist architecture of his first art school inspired him to experiment with modernist design and break with convention. He impressed upon me the important relationship between buildings and education - finishing his talk by telling us that he always "made sure my children went to well designed schools, if they have a well designed environment then good things must happen"
